Home and Hinterland Swansea – In the winter of 2022 artists from a range of disciplines, students from around the world and community members of all ages came together in the neighbourhood of Waun Wen and on Kilvey hill. Together they exchanged ideas and created art works in relation to the theme of ‘Home and Hinterland’.

Through a range of gatherings, workshops and encounters these groups explored place, community, themselves and a range of creative practices including; ceramics, film, sound, printmaking and mask making.

The project focused on the areas of Waun Wen and discussions of class, past and belonging. On Kilvey Hill people and horses came together in special encounters in which we learned to be with strangers and ourselves.

Home and Hinterland was about new experiences, ideas and bonds, helping everyone to take their first steps out of lockdown and enter into community life again. Taliesin thanks everyone who shared their time and enthusiasm, their story and creativity with us.

HOW TO BE WITH STRANGERS

Far away from the digital, mechanical world a group of people got to know each other by spending time together with some of Swansea’s urban horses and entering a realm of the senses.

WAUN WEN COMMUNITY FILM

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

An artist in WAUN WEN

Using art to explore the lack of representation of the working classes in culture and media – we’re demonised by the right and fetishised by the left, turned into a monster of stereotypes by the UK bourgeoisie and largely excluded by and from the Arts.
